Hands on History

Hands on History is the museum’s new monthly series of weekend programs for family members of all ages! Each month will feature a different activity that puts you in touch with Culpeper’s past! Programs will be offered mornings of the second Saturday of the month.

The museum continues to follow COVID masking, cleaning and social distancing protocols for children’s programs. Participating children and their families are requested to mask during the program.

Horses, Trains, and Automobiles!

Do you know when the 1 st road was built in Culpeper? How about the 1st railroad? Stop by the Museum of Culpeper History and learn about the history of various types of transportation in Culpeper. You can even “travel” cross country using different methods of transportation.

Fighting the Civil War

Do you know why Civil War battles were fought the way they were? Stop by the Museum of Culpeper History and learn about the evolution of Civil War battle tactics, focusing on battles near Culpeper. Visitors will be given a chance to “fight” different battles considering things like terrain, obstacles both natural and man-made, and branches of the military.

Exhibit Design, The Making of a Museum – The museum is getting ready to create a new exhibit. Come see how it is done and get a chance to try designing your own.

July 8
10:00 AM – Noon

Show me the Money! – Money didn’t always look the way it does today and was not the first way people paid for things. Learn about the evolution of money and try your hand at bartering for goods.
