The museum is happy to welcome small groups for a visit to the galleries. Programs can be designed to cover a variety of topics and grade levels.
Can’t bring your students to the Museum? No problem! The museum offers outreach programs where we will bring the museum to you.
All programs support the Virginia Standards of Learning.

Culpeper is DINOmite:
Uncovering footprints from the past
Culpeper is home to the largest collection of dinosaur tracks in North America. This program explores what Culpeper looked like during the Triassic period and the dinosaurs that roamed the region back then. Through hands-on activities, participants will learn about the archeological process of uncovering objects.
Culpeper’s First People:
The Mannahoac Tribe
The first people arrived in Culpeper over 12,000 years ago. This program explores the material culture of the Mannahoac Tribe. Participants will analyze primary sources to learn about their daily lives.
Culpeper’s Colonial Children’s Pastimes:
Toys and Games from the Past.
Life in colonial Culpeper was not easy, but despite the hardships, children still found ways to have fun. This program explores the types of toys and games children from the past would have played with here in Culpeper. At the end of the program, participants will have the chance to play with some reproduction toys from the period.
Culpeper’s Religious Freedom:
From Jailed Ministers to the First Amendment
Culpeper was right in the heart of the fight for religious freedom in the United States. This program explores the timeline of events that led to the First Amendment’s creation. Through analyzing primary documents participants will learn about the path to religious freedom in this country.
Culpeper Answers the Call:
The Culpeper Minutemen
Minutemen were civilians who had to be ready to fight at a minute’s notice during the Revolutionary War. This program explores who the Culpeper Minutemen were and the role they played in helping Virginia gain its independence from England. At the end of the program, participants will have the chance to make their own Culpeper Minutemen flag.
Culpeper Divided:
The Civil War in Culpeper
The Civil War was one of the bloodiest conflicts in American history, and it affected everyone. This program explores the four main battles that were fought in Culpeper County and their historical significance. Participants will analyze information from a battle and write an after-action report.
